　　West Virginia's casinos could face even more gambling competition in a bill signed into law Wednesday in Maryland.

　　Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley wasted little time in signing a legislative compromise that would represent the largest gambling expansion in his state since 2008.

　　The law sets up a process that will allow voters in Maryland to decide whether the state's designated gambling locations could turn into casinos.

　　One of those designated locations is Rocky Gap Resort, which is 80 miles east of Morgantown along Interstate 68.

　　Maryland voters approved video slot machines in 2008 but since then West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Delaware have all gone to table games.

　　Gov. O'Malley says he'll be supporting plans for a casino at National Harbor waterfront near Washington, D.C. Such a casino would likely provide competition for West Virginia's best-performing casino in Charles Town.

　　West Virginia gambling locations, particularly in the northern panhandle, have been hit hard by competition from Pennsylvania and Ohio. There are new casinos in the Pittsburgh and Cleveland areas.
